97% of teachers believe the workshops enhance their curriculum
84% of teens said the workshops changed their idea of poetry
34% of teens were inspired to write after the workshops
These hour-long workshops include a lecture on poetic form, the importance of creative catharsis, a performance, and an opportunity for students to come up and “cypher”. Classes can be combined for this event, which teachers say reinforces the academics of poetry, with a hip-hop twist!
Artist Residencies
This series of visits allows students to develop a deeper understanding of spoken word. Teens will have the opportunity to workshop their poems, and practice their performances. These writing groups culminate in a student showcase.
Workshop Series
There's so much more to study than slam! Students will learn about spoken word, traditional poetry, creative non-fiction, dramatic writing, and flash fiction. Teens will have the opportunity to share work, peer edit, and free write.
Open Mic or Poetry Slam
Students own the stage with a school or community open mic night or poetry slam, which is a competition judged by the audience. In addition to hosting, and running the show, we perform a 15 minute feature between rounds.
